The annual LBWS Tabletop Sale is rapidly approaching.

Yes, once again, it is almost time for the Lincombe Barn Wargames Society's Tabletop Sale.

The format is the same as in previous years, i.e. it is essentially an indoor car boot sale for wargamers.

Please note that all tables for the event have now been sold and therefore it is a bumper year for sellers and buyers alike. Demand has been so high from sellers for tables that I have had to open up an extra small room to fit everyone in!

I'm sure that this means more bargains and things you never knew you wanted until you saw them this year.

So, if you are in and around Bristol, come down and spend your cash.

If you want to stick around afterwards, there will be space for gaming too.

The 2025 Lincombe Barn Wargames Society (a.k.a Bristol Wargames Society) Tabletop sale

 Attention all wargamers in the Bristol area, or even further afield!

The annual LBWS Tabletop Sale is almost upon us.

The TTS will be on Sunday May 18th at Lincombe Barn, the usual venue, address below. Doors are open to the public from 9:30 for Early Birds (entry £5) and 10:00 (£3 adults, £1.50 juniors, under 12s free). The TTS will end at around 12:30.

The address is Lincombe Barn, Overndale Road, Downend, Bristol BS16 2RW.

There is a certain amount of car parking available and public transport runs to the venue, see THIS LINK.

Hot and cold refreshments and snacks will be available.

The sale is already sold out for private traders but that means that there will be lots of goodies on sale to the public. There is always a wide variety of things on sale, from wargames figures, vehicles, books etc to boardgames and sets of rules.

So, if you are looking for that special something, be it a few extra barbarians, Romans, medieval knights, WW2 tanks, fantasy figures or whatever, or maybe even a complete army come along as see what the sellers have on offer.

Reveille 2024 at Lincombe Barn Wargames Society

 Yes, it's nearly time for Reveille again, it is next Sunday, 24th November;

The show is, as you can see, at the usual location and there will be the usual variety of traders and games to observe and even join in playing.

Looking forward to seeing as many people as possible.

 Yes, we have traders and we have demo and participation games too! There is also free parking and reasonably-priced food available too. Entry is £4 for adults, £2 for juniors.

My first completed work of 2023 - WW2 British Airborne in 15mm

I,ve spent all of January so far staring at these figures and finally painting them! There are a lot, so scrolling down is required.

First, some anti-tank support options for my existing Airborne platoon, a 6-pdr A/T gun with a jeep and an officer followed by four two-man PIAT teams;

Next a couple of Vickers MMGs;

Finally, a few extra officers, one pair can also be used as a FOO for off-table mortar support and a couple of Rifle sections;

All of these figures come from Peter Pig, as do the original platoon. They will be used for a game of Big Chain of Command (two players a side) I will be running at Winter Wonder Lard at BIG in Bristol in late February.

I am sure that they will also come in handy for possible Arnhem games in the future.

The LBWS TTS is back!

 

Yes, the famous LBWS TTS is back to its proper date and time at the end of May.

We have sold all the available tables, so there is going to be plenty of stuff to buy, hopefully with bargains galore to suit whatever gap in your collection you need to fill.

So, put the date in your diaries and bring plenty of cash. You never know what treasures you might discover.

Hot drinks and snacks will be on sale too, so no need to go hungry!

The club meets on Sunday afternoons too, so if you feel like a game, why not stick around? New members are always welcome.

Some new recruits for the 61st Foot

 I've been meaning  to paint another group of 61st Foot to use up the last few Victrix 28mm plastics for ages, and finally, here they are.

This gives my 61st Foot Sharp Practice force four groups of Centre Company line troops, which with the three groups of Light Company skirmishing Light Bobs means that I have a fair amount of firepower to deploy on  the table.

The main reason for getting them done now is for a weekend of Peninsular War Sharp Practice at BIG in a couple of week's time. It'll be great to catch up with the regular crew for two whole days of Lardy fun and games.

Now they are complete, I might even knock up a little vignette of something as a deployment point, and maybe even finish off my water and ammunition carts which have been languishing half finished since before the Plague struck back in early 2020.

Sunday All-Day session at LBWS

Last Sunday was one of our all-dayers at Lincombe Barn Wargames Society. We had a pretty good turnout and there were plenty of games being played. 

They ranged from Peninsular War Sharp Practice, via HoTT, Saga: Age of Magic, Warhammer Ancient Battles and an unknown AWI game to Alien Squad Leader.

We actually played through a short HoTT campaign, with a variety of armies (Barbarians, Pirates, two lots of Orcs) invading an island continent and fighting both against the defenders and one another. This was rather successful and we will probably do something else along these lines again in the future.

If there are any wargamers in the Bristol area, or even a bit further afield who would like to play regularly on a Sunday afternoon, we are located at Lincombe Barn, Overndale Road, Downend, BS16 2RW.

LBWS Barn HOTT report

Well, last Sunday was our annual Horses Of The Things tournament, with a reasonable turnout of players. We all played four games each, with each game lasting 45 minutes. It was nice to see regular competitors from outside the club again.

As usual, there were many different armies on the table, so here are some pictures, including one or two you might recognise from a previous post;

I did manage to win one game, which left me in the lower portion of mid-table when it came to the overall results, but the first and second spots went to Arnaud and Keith, who are regular attendees from outside the club. Keith fielded the excellent giant pumpkin army and Arnaud had a late mediaeval army that I came up against in what actually looked like a historical encounter.  I started out with an oblique line strategy, with my right held back to protect my Stronghold. Unfortunately, at the crucial point I rolled three or four 1s in succession when rolling for PIPs, which left me at something of a disadvantage, especially as I lost the unit defending the extreme right of my line, leaving the path clear for Arnaud to capture my Stronghold. So it goes.

Just another Sunday at Lincombe Barn.......

.............and this week, many of us were practising for next weekend's Hordes Of The Things tournament.

Personally, I welcomed the opportunity for a few practice games, because pretty much the only time I play HoTT is in January each year. This year, I decided to use my Warhammer Fantasy Averland-themed army, which I put together and painted in 2017. Obviously, I won't be using all 48pts, because the tournament uses standard 24pt armies.

Anyway, on with the eye candy. I didn't take many pictures, but I did want to show my army in all its black and yellow glory;

Elsewhere, non-HoTT players were enjoying such things as Saga, Seven Days To The Rhine, Alien Squad Leader and 7TV Pulp (which reminds me that I really must stop collecting figures for the game and start painting the ones I already have);

All in all, it was a pretty busy Sunday afternoon, which always seems to be the case when we end up in the smaller room.

How did I fare in my five games of HoTT? Well, probably better than I'll do in the actual tournament. I won three and lost two. I think the blend of troops I've chosen is fundamentally OK, I just need to remember that Warbands destroy Blades and Spears if they win the combat, and that you shouldn't expose your General to the risk of getting flanked and then losing in the subsequent combat .

Reveille 2019 - the AAR

Last Sunday was the 2019 edition of the Lincombe Barn Wargames Society's annual club show, Reveille II, at our usual venue, the Downend Folk House in Bristol.

There was a wide range of traders and private sellers plus a lot of very nice demonstration and participation games. I think that the general consensus from attendees that the show was a lot of fun and that they were looking forward to next year's event.

Major traders included Warlord, Magister Militum, Ironclad and Great Escape Games, but there were many other less well-known traders at the show.

The photos here show a mixture of traders and games, in no particular order. As you can see, there was a wide range of things, something for everyone!
