I didn't want my buildings coming apart in gaming use. In hindsight, I should have used greenstuff or Milliput to fill the more obvious gaps, but it is too late now.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;">Having said that, I am really pleased with the painted and based results. These pieces could be used in so many settings; gang warfare in the depths of a hive city, scavenging the remains of an abandoned mining base on a forgotten planet, post-apocalyptic survival against mutant or alien hordes, Games set in a wretched hive of scum and villainy or just on a battlefield between implacable enemies. The possibilities are endless.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I decided to go for a grimdark, worn-out and run-down feel to everything. That kind of look and feel appeals to me when it comes to science fiction gaming. There is plenty of rust on the walls, grimy floors and a general appearance of a civilisation fallen on hard times or outposts on hostile planets or moons.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I've finished everything off - a couple of weeks of hard slog, I have to say, and I'll post everything over the next week or so. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">I am planning to use some of these pieces with my Jon Hodgson sci fi backdrops to create some nice little dioramas. They will obviously have lots of uses in Xenos Rampant and with my own Reivers Of The Outer Rim rules, which I am currently planning to simplify and re-write.</p>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-80606045643743772362024-02-26T11:50:00.006+00:002024-02-26T11:50:37.308+00:00More Wargames Atlantic giant spiders<p style="text-align: justify;">About a year ago, I posted about the excellent <a href="https://hippolytastinyfootsteps.blogspot.com/2023/04/if-you-suffer-from-arachnophobia.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Wargames Atlantic Classic Fantasy Giant Spiders</a>. Back in January I decided that I really had to assemble and paint the rest of the box, and here are the results. I've taken two pictures of them. Firstly a simple shot showing the spiders against a plain backdrop and, when you scroll down a second picture set up as a small action diorama.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpDXpHGlXXdYxh3PdSuob94i2E9rP1rRgdP3AfBPxDX-0JFW7MvisE1pcaahQl5BdBHjvrgIV3WHW45O2yexYt9BOuhUj0-7liQqgXNmWTIEnsMFNgKtpvWHjthNytcJeX-AallGWXiLcmpH9jH7LUnxYCs1ftW9L_xz8lpjPC_Ks_HitOHhU5kseHyE4/s1100/Six%20giant%20and%20one%20quite%20big%20spiders.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="733" data-original-width="1100" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpDXpHGlXXdYxh3PdSuob94i2E9rP1rRgdP3AfBPxDX-0JFW7MvisE1pcaahQl5BdBHjvrgIV3WHW45O2yexYt9BOuhUj0-7liQqgXNmWTIEnsMFNgKtpvWHjthNytcJeX-AallGWXiLcmpH9jH7LUnxYCs1ftW9L_xz8lpjPC_Ks_HitOHhU5kseHyE4/w640-h426/Six%20giant%20and%20one%20quite%20big%20spiders.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;">As you can see the six big spiders are absolutely huge posed with a Bad Squiddo Freyja's Wrath female Berserker (who I use as my Barbarian character for D&D). The smaller spider is the Barbarian's latest acquisition, Fluffy the giant wolf spider.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I wanted to use a simple but menacing dark palette for these spiders. After assembly, a tricky job, they were glued to 5cm MDF bases which were then covered with a mix of PVA glue and calcium sand (which is used in reptile vivariums). </p><p style="text-align: justify;">I undercoated the spiders in Halford's matt grey spray primer and, once dry, gave them a wash of Nuln Oil. Next I set about a series of dry-brushed layers in dark, medium and pale grey and then set them aside. Once dry, I then finished off the spiders with a wash of diluted W&N Indian ink and, when that was dry, I picked out the fangs and eyes in a pale grey. The Indian ink had dripped down onto the bases, which was what I wanted and I finished the bases off with a simple wash of lightly diluted Agrax Earthshade</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I should have made seven giant spiders and one large one, but somewhere over the last year, I seem to have lost the head/thorax part for one of the big guys, I might have to look at some kind of human/arachnid mutant at some point.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Anyway, as promised above, here is the diorama;</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9RiSU3O1ZdM2UCM6JaNHDWp7YJBFt8A3Zp37jxSb_7RhF6L6rwn-H85JpiaNUizNNzq_jRNBmy__fSKa2CPpSHuS0v0K9_PXYhp0-tGFhtXE4CBodQzguuBey3POpsDfDrmCZfI-pOq84VVZOj6VwA4HxqgNGoUnj2e3sAy9s94Sv7K9lyzzYgD2Jg-c/s1400/Meet%20the%20spiders.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="933" data-original-width="1400" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9RiSU3O1ZdM2UCM6JaNHDWp7YJBFt8A3Zp37jxSb_7RhF6L6rwn-H85JpiaNUizNNzq_jRNBmy__fSKa2CPpSHuS0v0K9_PXYhp0-tGFhtXE4CBodQzguuBey3POpsDfDrmCZfI-pOq84VVZOj6VwA4HxqgNGoUnj2e3sAy9s94Sv7K9lyzzYgD2Jg-c/w640-h426/Meet%20the%20spiders.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;">I'm pretty happy with this picture. I think it has come out really nicely.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The scene was set up in my lightbox, using a Jon Hodgson backdrop, a selection of my 3D printed ruins and a floor made from my Warbases dungeon tiles. I took several shots with aperture priority using different light intensities and different apertures, shooting at an exposure range between ISO 100 and ISO 800 with my Pentax K-70 DSLR. </p>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-39933521184606626862024-02-21T10:30:00.008+00:002024-02-21T10:30:45.014+00:00Egyptian ruins, plus a fountain.<p style="text-align: justify;"> First, the fountain;</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKRV1kJnq8J0GZqav9Jgwtr7KMTYTfxuLYY21klT_MgNBpToAC_MLoQCXPhTFgSN2YG4x95ihMiGfo-WqLJZsxMFJluVaNRvo4czIIlxgpPnisRC_42RF1nV6SfuAINW6ILGReaoFTEKthOhCQ65dpxtEWvHRCxrCLpUzNgyS0RdRdgQQhtdcv2E0sRn0/s828/Fountain.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="551" data-original-width="828" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKRV1kJnq8J0GZqav9Jgwtr7KMTYTfxuLYY21klT_MgNBpToAC_MLoQCXPhTFgSN2YG4x95ihMiGfo-WqLJZsxMFJluVaNRvo4czIIlxgpPnisRC_42RF1nV6SfuAINW6ILGReaoFTEKthOhCQ65dpxtEWvHRCxrCLpUzNgyS0RdRdgQQhtdcv2E0sRn0/w640-h426/Fountain.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: justify;">This is another 3D print from Dungeon Scenes. Job done.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Hopefully these will get plenty of fantasy, pulp, VSF and eldritch horror use.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I'm going to have to get back to painting actual minis now. The figure is for scale purposes only.<p></p><p style="text-align: justify;">I thought that I would go for a Grimdark theme for these pieces rather than shiny clean advanced technology or a Mandalorian-style dusty Cowboys in Space look.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The big rusty blue thing at the back has been painted to be an abandoned installation of some kind, mainly because I had previously dropped it and one of the sticking up pieces had got broken. The two generator type pieces are clearly the kind of ancient technology that suits a degenerate and xenophobic civilisation that doesn't really understand how its machines work, or maybe it is alien tech that does abominable things in strange and incomprehensible ways?</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The hexagonal sensor array (or whatever else it might be) at the back isn't as Grimdark as the other pieces, especially the bronzed tower.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I'll get these in front of some of Jon Hodgson's sci fi backdrops at some point.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The two generators could definitely feature in Pulp or VSF games, as well as more conventional science fiction settings.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Overall, I am pretty pleased with how they have turned out, even though this photograph doesn't really do them justice. </p>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-55325639223941293332024-02-12T14:52:00.005+00:002024-02-12T14:52:41.309+00:00Quite a lot of 3D printed ruins<p style="text-align: justify;">A couple of years ago, I bought a load of 3D printed scenic items at the club's Tabletop Sale from a guy who trades as "Dungeon Scenes" and who can be found on Facebook, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/DungeonScenes3D/?locale=en_GB" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a>. For a variety of reasons I'd not got round to painting any of the stuff until now. Here are various bits of ruined buildings, you'll have to scroll down to see everything.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">First, some nice ruined arches and columns (the Bad Squiddo Amazon is for scale purposes only).</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7QiuKaZxEKbJjk9yNuntuEpmb4rwpwdhWNgFy2LAymYC9I7g7M9rfAarsya0ojNfVL5MNdvdOnHXSBktk3Lv85Aq926mdShm1Zb3pm9EppJArGiyPNWXHfj5ssQDJKqrhQw-MMGUnUZQPSSRW2FIhsnXLC3shoBe0o_b9FqxsYNsJ628u05utdVdSNI4/s1014/Ruined%20colonnade%20-%20four%20pieces.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="675" data-original-width="1014" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7QiuKaZxEKbJjk9yNuntuEpmb4rwpwdhWNgFy2LAymYC9I7g7M9rfAarsya0ojNfVL5MNdvdOnHXSBktk3Lv85Aq926mdShm1Zb3pm9EppJArGiyPNWXHfj5ssQDJKqrhQw-MMGUnUZQPSSRW2FIhsnXLC3shoBe0o_b9FqxsYNsJ628u05utdVdSNI4/w640-h426/Ruined%20colonnade%20-%20four%20pieces.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>Next, a corner piece with arches and another piece which shows an overgrown red tiled floor and low walls.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5F4ak4gUB9z4LzBZcDc1v7Aj4h7LxlI2F2mzbpiTmvMgfgU9k4Qah8MXVT-jlKTzEJ5oglnJLEkYuCmYKW4NHFYR7ity8NxoudDTT8n2jmkowyr4xIcTKq_w1rA6xPhpbJFRwcSWjtex00pDbP4v4_LmoL1uGoTudvthiydb4AB5B1_RFdn8usMnzAcQ/s806/Ruined%20corner%20and%20floor.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="659" data-original-width="806" height="524" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5F4ak4gUB9z4LzBZcDc1v7Aj4h7LxlI2F2mzbpiTmvMgfgU9k4Qah8MXVT-jlKTzEJ5oglnJLEkYuCmYKW4NHFYR7ity8NxoudDTT8n2jmkowyr4xIcTKq_w1rA6xPhpbJFRwcSWjtex00pDbP4v4_LmoL1uGoTudvthiydb4AB5B1_RFdn8usMnzAcQ/w640-h524/Ruined%20corner%20and%20floor.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>Finally, seven pieces from a much larger ruined building. I washed and dried them off before priming them in Halford's grey plastic primer, which pretty much provided the base coat and then the rest of the work was dry-brushing and adding grassy flock mix and other odds and ends of vegetation. I'm very happy with the climbing plants entwined around the windows in the final photo. They are wire-stemmed model railway small scale trees and really add some nice atmosphere.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I have some sci fi bits and pieces to paint up next, and I have also finished off a small fountain piece which I need to get varnished.</p>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-64990570717982048442024-02-02T08:49:00.003+00:002024-02-02T08:49:41.984+00:00Some figures I painted back in the 1990s<p style="text-align: justify;">I was looking through some old PC backups on DVDs last week and I found a file of photos I took in 2005 with my first digital camera. Some of the shading is pretty terrible and I can see lots of things I'd do differently now.</p>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-73163179137539925882024-01-31T14:26:00.000+00:002024-01-31T14:26:03.620+00:00A few figures that have been hanging around for yearsThese were figures that I got with the Congo Mungo Ma Lobeh campaign supplement, which features the real female explorer <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Kingsley" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Mary Kingsley</a>.<div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRO2LP-Lg6xmt_Ds8cBmK9jMKNLECbGBhHKYbncuAgIG4qudF9MIbBGuajiXxYN38Z1CRCkNlWKQR2wUdbAEtpVwyRtyWu2wFpgCFededvOKXaZ8PZIp_U2Tp-A78klWyt8wd5AEbrePMKayifOFzZQ4S2HX-l3wLJLoZR5Gnpy0AbDzgG2kPfQCmvtHM/s1228/Mary%20Wesley%20and%20Witchdoctor.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="818" data-original-width="1228" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRO2LP-Lg6xmt_Ds8cBmK9jMKNLECbGBhHKYbncuAgIG4qudF9MIbBGuajiXxYN38Z1CRCkNlWKQR2wUdbAEtpVwyRtyWu2wFpgCFededvOKXaZ8PZIp_U2Tp-A78klWyt8wd5AEbrePMKayifOFzZQ4S2HX-l3wLJLoZR5Gnpy0AbDzgG2kPfQCmvtHM/w640-h426/Mary%20Wesley%20and%20Witchdoctor.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">The picture above is Mary Kingsley and her adversary in the campaign, Uguwa, a powerful sorceror. Here are the results. Firstly a bridge and river sections to create a crossing point.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj04-zFfTIh09HvsfTkCkIIQguE4Jp7rVaLa70t9BUlieuk-yVig0gTg_dPMJl9CFq8KapshNXSfe9gUlwZEQ437iEvE73-dY5ILgQdATXamerb4eUayVf7JXVDz7QL0gh8TREMa5yiJY_ZdbSWjSe5S9X9hAP4EEBNjZVa16p5HCeehnpQbktDW2alnVg/s1000/Bridge%20and%20river%20sections.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj04-zFfTIh09HvsfTkCkIIQguE4Jp7rVaLa70t9BUlieuk-yVig0gTg_dPMJl9CFq8KapshNXSfe9gUlwZEQ437iEvE73-dY5ILgQdATXamerb4eUayVf7JXVDz7QL0gh8TREMa5yiJY_ZdbSWjSe5S9X9hAP4EEBNjZVa16p5HCeehnpQbktDW2alnVg/w640-h426/Bridge%20and%20river%20sections.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">The bridge is resin. I bought it ages ago, at Colours, I think from The Square. It has sat around in a box under my desk for a few years but I decided that it was high time I painted it so it can become useful. The river sections are made from corrugated cardboard with taped edges and just textured and painted. There are more sections to make up a decent length of river;</div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX9_KS_0wkvZ2JQSeIeg96rG3XfQUF_49EL3RGChmz-2dxWuS8ylM4CXGIsoLNdrLXfKsFR21Owbv6Cd78wfExFb2Af3x4y7JCW_OHNQhunjDt6-GVIVcBOhuhNP_BZCYjI6kKpK3e-WHQ31X6vtyIVt2PdMVFYfZX0K7mLtZ5xYJyQF4IYvi2B67DU0Q/s1000/River%20sections%202.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX9_KS_0wkvZ2JQSeIeg96rG3XfQUF_49EL3RGChmz-2dxWuS8ylM4CXGIsoLNdrLXfKsFR21Owbv6Cd78wfExFb2Af3x4y7JCW_OHNQhunjDt6-GVIVcBOhuhNP_BZCYjI6kKpK3e-WHQ31X6vtyIVt2PdMVFYfZX0K7mLtZ5xYJyQF4IYvi2B67DU0Q/w640-h426/River%20sections%202.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLI2RwCT-I43apgKS6LKqNU4q0Cg-O6p_2Fn5S0o-DtnUwOm_qr-s5RQt5eaDqh-HEaolvYHKSotXbaAshS2_ANf3c53vGTTiQxwTqwtlC8RoLOPBzRtFkcCu_S-5kO7OyIiZatxznU5t75Zcenj7DSINXP5kDGMicKHnmCkzSZ-3fG-7ib9uoB4pClOw/s1000/River%20sections%203.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLI2RwCT-I43apgKS6LKqNU4q0Cg-O6p_2Fn5S0o-DtnUwOm_qr-s5RQt5eaDqh-HEaolvYHKSotXbaAshS2_ANf3c53vGTTiQxwTqwtlC8RoLOPBzRtFkcCu_S-5kO7OyIiZatxznU5t75Zcenj7DSINXP5kDGMicKHnmCkzSZ-3fG-7ib9uoB4pClOw/w640-h426/River%20sections%203.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;">On these final two sections, you can definitely tell what they are made from! They are cork floor tiles cut into 5cm wide strips and coated with PVA glue and railway modelling ballast. In total there is over 3.5 m of roads. If I ever find the ones I made before, that would give me another 2.4 m of roads/tracks.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">All of this stuff is going to be great for Sharp Practice and Chain of Command in 15mm, but only time will tell how robust the cardboard-based stuff is!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I doubt that the bridge would be able to take the weight of armour, but it'll work fine for infantry and light vehicles.</div>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-29151181325908810602024-01-11T15:53:00.001+00:002024-01-11T15:53:10.316+00:00My plans for 2024.<p style="text-align: justify;">A few days ago, I looked back at what I had planned for last year. Now, I am going to look forward to the coming 12 months and look at the things I want to work on as my main projects for 2024, as well as note down a few things that I can work on in between if I'm feeling a bit bored with the main job in hand.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I have three big 28mm projects (the first two being the most important);</p><p style="text-align: justify;">An Elven Army for Midgard which will also work for Sword and Spear Fantasy. I have all the figures for these. They are the excellent Oathmark Elves from North Star. I have Heavy and Light Infantry and the recently-released Cavalry. I've probably got more Heavy Infantry than I really need (I went for the original High Elf army bundle North Star released when Oathmark was first launched) but I'm sure I'll find a use for any leftovers.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">A 1940 French Infantry platoon with various support options for Chain of Command. These are all Warlord Games. I've two boxes of infantry, a M1897 75mm gun and a Hotchkiss MMG. I'll have enough figures for an extra Groupe de Combat, extra crew members for the gun and MMG and probably a sniper team and some engineers. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">More 28mm Bloody Miniatures 17th century figures. These will be two more of the Foot releases as well as the recent release of Horse.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Another 28mm project I <i>hope</i> to get done is another Xenos Rampant force using the Wargames Atlantic Deathfields Bulldogs. I want to give these a real Weird WW1 vibe.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I've got things to complete from 2023 too. Top of the list are those 28mm Bicorne Miniatures pikemen.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">At some point, I'll carry on with my 15mm Warhammer Empire themed army but I really needs to be in the right mood to work on this.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I will carry on working on scenic stuff too. I have loads of 28mm Sci Fi things to get painted and also some 28mm Renedra plastic buildings. I've also got various 15mm and 28mm odds and ends which I can work on in between the big projects. I also need to work on trees, river sections and other stuff. I might even get round to doing my long-planned but never started modular graveyard, complete with weird sculptures and other stuff. I've got all the bits I need. All I need now is the willpower and the time to make it happen.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I've also got the Bad Squiddo Community Miniatures figures to do. These will also be worked on when I need a break from Elves or French infantry.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Inevitably, I have Pulp/7TV figures to work on too, but that part of the backlog is slowly shrinking.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">There are lots of other things I might get round too working on (late 19th century North West Frontier in 15mm, 28mm Bad Squiddo Soviet Women, various WW2 North Africa in different scales etc) but they aren't actual objectives.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I expect that this time next year, I'll still have things I never got round to finishing, or even starting! So it goes.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-42848845903193808122024-01-09T11:56:00.001+00:002024-01-09T11:57:00.312+00:00My review of what I completed in 2023<p>Of course, at the start of the year I had many good intentions, so, how did I do? The picture below is something I didn't plan, but it came up quite early on as something I wanted to paint.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijHjGL4b01PO0SQ_3gayCIshcLMhd_zTE9qlkUM85ETmK62kVgPdSqjlVcRoiS2GcYUD5zKDC7_W1XLC9TwYoINcNWav6Va4Nly7uU00Ht5pqEaz2d-0ryqjctOCBhK9uhQ-C_RVlHwyE_L1PCH-hVUnb6ZtAW4qLhJ8H6vGids2nPDBKtVFniDzCXKjE/s1303/Necromancer%20and%20apprentice.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1053" data-original-width="1303" height="518" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijHjGL4b01PO0SQ_3gayCIshcLMhd_zTE9qlkUM85ETmK62kVgPdSqjlVcRoiS2GcYUD5zKDC7_W1XLC9TwYoINcNWav6Va4Nly7uU00Ht5pqEaz2d-0ryqjctOCBhK9uhQ-C_RVlHwyE_L1PCH-hVUnb6ZtAW4qLhJ8H6vGids2nPDBKtVFniDzCXKjE/w640-h518/Necromancer%20and%20apprentice.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>They were two North Star figures that were the subject of a painting challenge set by Nick Eyre, the North Star supremo. I think they turned out pretty well although I didn't win. The standard was really high and I never expected to win. It was fun painting them, though</p><p>Here were my actual plans;</p><p><span style="background-color: #04ff00;">15mm WW2 British Airborne support options for Chain of Command (these will be my January priority).</span></p><p><span style="background-color: #04ff00;">15mm WW2 German support options for Chain of Command</span></p><p><span style="background-color: #04ff00;">Stargrave plastic box sets for Xenos Rampant armies</span></p><p><span style="background-color: #04ff00;">Various other plastic sets that will work for Xenos Rampant with head and weapons swaps.</span></p><p><span style="background-color: #04ff00;">28mm Spanish for Sharp Practice </span></p><p><span style="background-color: #04ff00;">28mm Bloody Miniatures 17th century troopers</span></p><p><span style="background-color: #01ffff;">28mm 17th century Bicorne Miniatures Pikemen and Musketeers (these will augment my existing Bloody Miniatures figures to make up useful forces for various sets of rules)</span></p><p><span style="background-color: white;">15mm extra units for my SYW Honours Of War army, infantry and artillery mostly</span></p><p><span style="background-color: white;">28mm Wild West figures for Dead Man's Hand and anything else.</span></p><p><span style="background-color: #fcff01;">15mm Renaissance army for Sword and Spear Fantasy (with a Warhammer Fantasy Empire theme)</span></p><p><span style="background-color: white;">15mm Northwest Frontier Imperial and Afghan forces and buildings (this is a new project)</span></p><p><span style="background-color: #01ffff;">Continuing building up my scenic collection in 15mm and 28mm, including lots of 28mm Sci Fi scenics</span></p><p>1/285 scale 8th Army and DAK for O Group</p><p>Crossfire 15mm US infantry company</p><p>15mm WW2 1943-45 British/Commonwealth infantry for the Far East.</p><p><span style="background-color: #01ffff;">28mm Pulp figures for all sorts of things (I have too many of these in my leadpile)</span></p><p>Additions to my 28mm Perry plastic Renaissance collection</p><p><span style="background-color: #01ffff;">Silver Bayonet - I completed a Spanish band</span></p><p>28mm Soviet Women, also for Chain of Command (from the Bad Squiddo Kickstarter)</p><p>28mm Late Roman skirmishing and armoured cavalry, and cataphracts too.</p><p>15mm Romano-British "Arthurian" army for Sword and Spear Fantasy</p><p>If the above is highlighted in green, I achieved it as planned. If it is in yellow, I started it but have plenty left to do and if it is in blue, it is an ongoing project. Scenics will always come under that heading.</p><p> Anything not highlighted hasn't been started and will probably get dropped for 2024, although I now have the North-west Frontier figures and they might get looked at during the year. In the case of the 15mm SYW extra units, that isn't going to happen at all.</p><p>The Bicorne Miniatures stuff is almost completed. I did all the Musketeers and the Pikemen are almost finished, so they will get done quite soon, hopefully. They were victims of the dose of Painter's Block I had during the last couple of months of 2023.</p><p>Overall, I am reasonably happy with what I actually achieved but it was a case of Could Try Harder.</p><p>I'll do a separate post covering my 2024 plans soon. I have fewer firm objectives for the coming year, and a few ideas for side projects to stop me getting bored. What I want to avoid is getting dragged off down rabbit holes and buying stuff because I suddenly get a burning desire to start something that looks interesting. I expect it'll happen, though.</p><div><br /></div>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-76958792986678933972023-12-30T11:56:00.007+00:002023-12-30T11:56:54.978+00:00My final completed thing in 2023<p style="text-align: justify;">Well, despite my best intentions, I've only finished one last piece this year. This is it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihAfSXHlYgmBmhMAhUGZ6Q-GA1FqV20XZdbgNhNw4VHS3bW3o9M_6w9_0QAQFd9TKOGTdU6suhs7z8l_SEQ7UZWl5Bt7581Q7WmTI_OsueWYJuDK2zkhAIk40f4rNrVHlnyOXvPFtV5eg7Kxc4EqUAXOlDyjg4d0GR6J3nIGX0fTvpow64t-3omg9IFzg/s1097/Mariner%20War%20Jack.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="812" data-original-width="1097" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihAfSXHlYgmBmhMAhUGZ6Q-GA1FqV20XZdbgNhNw4VHS3bW3o9M_6w9_0QAQFd9TKOGTdU6suhs7z8l_SEQ7UZWl5Bt7581Q7WmTI_OsueWYJuDK2zkhAIk40f4rNrVHlnyOXvPFtV5eg7Kxc4EqUAXOlDyjg4d0GR6J3nIGX0fTvpow64t-3omg9IFzg/w640-h474/Mariner%20War%20Jack.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: justify;">I bought this at the club's Tabletop Sale back in May for (I think) £3. It is a Warmachines Mariner War Jack, whatever that might be, but I think it will be great for Steampunk and Pulp games, either as a McGuffin, an objective or an enemy.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I undercoated it in black and gave it progressive layers and areas of Vallejo bronze and brass, with oiled steel where appropriate (e.g. on the anchor and chain). Then it got all all-over wash of Nuln Oil.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I then washed the steel with Vallejo orange brown to give an impression of rust and a wash of pale blue mixed with green to create a patina of verdegris.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">When I based it, I allowed the sandy basing gunk to stick to the thing's feet, to look like sand.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The Peaky Blinder is only there for scale purposes, but I doubt that his Lewis gun would be much use against such a Behemoth.</p>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-68435538136735506312023-12-10T11:57:00.003+00:002023-12-10T11:57:50.605+00:00Moon Goddess statue<p style="text-align: justify;">OK, this is my first attempt at a photo using a background from one of my new <a href="https://badsquiddogames.com/shop#!/Photo-Backdrops/c/152681785" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Jon Hodgson backdrop books</a>.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj75hmtXL6EJQ9lqj5qtl1yTz8FutwvqyHlUL4RVyBK6FqcmFIZmnkD3DCxQtITkxWGzR3l0ExzqkCbwfrytURS9DbardfU8w5Yi3JnpfgdoTwGTXFA2pOPOVBYP_tP7-SvdWKABnc6KOeaHyuTr5ZTOAERvm4_y8icFuO7QI59p8Avzvgxk1TwCjbygCY/s3159/Moon%20Goddess%20statue.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3159" data-original-width="2072" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj75hmtXL6EJQ9lqj5qtl1yTz8FutwvqyHlUL4RVyBK6FqcmFIZmnkD3DCxQtITkxWGzR3l0ExzqkCbwfrytURS9DbardfU8w5Yi3JnpfgdoTwGTXFA2pOPOVBYP_tP7-SvdWKABnc6KOeaHyuTr5ZTOAERvm4_y8icFuO7QI59p8Avzvgxk1TwCjbygCY/w420-h640/Moon%20Goddess%20statue.JPG" width="420" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;">I got two books via a Kickstarter; one is a fantasy set and the other is sci fi. Both are excellent. They are available from a few different places, including Bad Squiddo and <a href="https://handiwork.games/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Handiwork Games</a>.The figure is from Bad Squiddo, but she isn't available in the Shop. Originally supposed to be <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genepil" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Genepil</a>, the last Queen of Mongolia. Annie designed her as part of the Bad Squiddo Community Miniatures project but later withdrew her as it turns out that <a href="https://factcheck.afp.com/doc.afp.com.323Q47F" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">the source for her was actually a photograph of an anonymous Mongolian noblewoman</a>. So, she is never going to be available and is therefore rather exclusive.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I didn't need a mini of a Mongolian noblewoman but I definitely wanted to use the mini, so I decided to turn her into a statue. I put her on <a href="https://fenrisgames.com/shop#!/FGFAS93-Medium-statue-plinths/p/88132885" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">a resin plinth from Fenris Games</a> and then added a couple of MDF squares to create a set of steps. I added some textures to show that the status is of great age, both ballast and, after painting areas of moss and lichens.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">For the photo, I simply posed her on one of my <a href="https://warbases.co.uk/product/classic-dungeon-tiles/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Warbases pre-coloured dungeon tiles</a>.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">My idea was to create an arcane statue of a Moon Goddess, sheathed in precious metals and with a prominent silver crescent Moon on her headdress. I have slightly overexposed the image to make it look like she is being illuminated by the light of the full Moon. Below is an alternative shot, which was taken without any exposure compensation.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJJfwz6hOQiCYXa4BB-bU2IxsA3FY4LJkuQBCDmuB-BXIwxFbIKkQm0FzjSN8naa8B_AzFFloq_Fkq-ij_aRiaw_lOxwPpsOnVNLWtO1Yx-ZxwvuSLAR2IHbd7fINfxT9-r1Wo869oU-HNyly2vZ5ev_NhUJyNEUO4kZRvOrMMw-Ahgqe01DTfRoY8W-A/s3018/Moon%20Goddess%201.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3018" data-original-width="2147" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJJfwz6hOQiCYXa4BB-bU2IxsA3FY4LJkuQBCDmuB-BXIwxFbIKkQm0FzjSN8naa8B_AzFFloq_Fkq-ij_aRiaw_lOxwPpsOnVNLWtO1Yx-ZxwvuSLAR2IHbd7fINfxT9-r1Wo869oU-HNyly2vZ5ev_NhUJyNEUO4kZRvOrMMw-Ahgqe01DTfRoY8W-A/w456-h640/Moon%20Goddess%201.jpg" width="456" /></a></div><div><br /></div>I like both photos, but I think that the brighter one suits the purpose of making her look like she is absorbing the power of moonlight.<div><br /></div><div>Now, all I need is to work out a game setting where she might come in handy. She could definitely be the objective in a Back of Beyond Pulp game.<br /><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p></div>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1607014156859178358.post-51383197411105519382023-12-09T11:40:00.002+00:002023-12-09T11:40:25.456+00:00It's been over a month since my last post.<p style="text-align: justify;">"Well, why is that?" you might ask, and the simple answer is The Dreaded Painter's Block. It isn't that I've done no painting at all, it is just that I keep losing interest and leaving things half done.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">However, I have found a way to actually complete a few things, by painting things that are simple and have very few stages from undercoating to completion and here are some of them;</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqSFoELHNwvnIJXqhSizsyrK46v3i0pUs6BAdwBRFCFUiM3NN-esS7MV1IM1JgSMQFdBRowAp1T33hF9eB-CaPVo6__bXsFAiQPlRkdcCZsF4SlyL4MoJg0StlHylkxRzwLJhE4EqPOwa7RAdahSVWiUXv0ZehLqDnEg-tbYF7Ydm0swTTUuXVut39sJA/s907/Skellies.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="604" data-original-width="907" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqSFoELHNwvnIJXqhSizsyrK46v3i0pUs6BAdwBRFCFUiM3NN-esS7MV1IM1JgSMQFdBRowAp1T33hF9eB-CaPVo6__bXsFAiQPlRkdcCZsF4SlyL4MoJg0StlHylkxRzwLJhE4EqPOwa7RAdahSVWiUXv0ZehLqDnEg-tbYF7Ydm0swTTUuXVut39sJA/w640-h426/Skellies.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;">Firstly, above are eight Skeleton Warriors. I actually really like painting Skellies. They are a quick win, which is why I dug these out from a box of odds and ends and got working on them. I hoped that they would kickstart me into doing a few more things, and they have. Below are a few more quick wins, a giant snake and two small dinosaurs;</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhukgEm_hqgLcinuuVc0Hg-j-jB3sMCQBxznpzh6tMsNxumHBRRFycqra4470ktan8aFlkhavAJcaEJ0dGOI_4bzh1Zvmbi1HJCs2oO-o8GXjkfrQIQsOpIPo5AYpvXnYxQdV-vgOSTl1SkAFkhyphenhyphenPCPwrj6DSOJCj7L8f-2yvd9JOYRl3jIK0fU93uo9Tc/s1179/Giant%20snake%20and%20small%20dinosaurs.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="785" data-original-width="1179" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhukgEm_hqgLcinuuVc0Hg-j-jB3sMCQBxznpzh6tMsNxumHBRRFycqra4470ktan8aFlkhavAJcaEJ0dGOI_4bzh1Zvmbi1HJCs2oO-o8GXjkfrQIQsOpIPo5AYpvXnYxQdV-vgOSTl1SkAFkhyphenhyphenPCPwrj6DSOJCj7L8f-2yvd9JOYRl3jIK0fU93uo9Tc/w640-h426/Giant%20snake%20and%20small%20dinosaurs.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;">I'm working on the basis that one day I'll need a giant snake and a couple of small dinos.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I bought all the above from <a href="https://badsquiddogames.com/shop" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bad Squiddo</a>. Annie occasionally goes through her stock and sells off odds and ends that she no longer wants to keep in the catalogue as sale items. In Sword and Spear Fantasy, wizards don't really dominate games, I find them most useful to either bolster units in combat or to try and remove hits on units at the end of game turns.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I've given the mounted Leonardo figure a barded horse, to mark him out as a wizard of great power and repute.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I like wizards in purple, it seems a good colour for the Hermetic Arts and the Occult.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Finally, what self-respecting Empire army would be without a Hero on a Gryphon? Well, certainly not mine.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7VxRgfoofoxXOfDM5uWTnjkr-EzC5q_MthVinrzPfFm2QTWSNyKetLthWKHeq_gkk6gBT9naQNHSlyVZiknkUf_rxXSsH_suf89st_69q5ErWL3xgV6nlnSnmLJjur2aSwhdoQ6C0Ur0l-T_Q3RsusTRP6rTyDiIOYW3O4qLWMRlztylAFZehzNphKlg/s956/Hero%20on%20a%20Gryphon.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="933" data-original-width="956" height="624" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7VxRgfoofoxXOfDM5uWTnjkr-EzC5q_MthVinrzPfFm2QTWSNyKetLthWKHeq_gkk6gBT9naQNHSlyVZiknkUf_rxXSsH_suf89st_69q5ErWL3xgV6nlnSnmLJjur2aSwhdoQ6C0Ur0l-T_Q3RsusTRP6rTyDiIOYW3O4qLWMRlztylAFZehzNphKlg/w640-h624/Hero%20on%20a%20Gryphon.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div>One of the things I like about Alternative Armies' figure ranges is that you can bout mounted figures and mounts separately, as seen here. I still have it, but I rarely play HoTT nowadays. However, I am always thinking about renaissance wargaming and a year or so ago I bought a load of<a href="https://www.alternative-armies.com/collections/15mm-renaissance-altuos-range" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> Alternative Armies</a> figures in the form of two complete (French and Italian) Italian Wars armies plus some extra odds and ends. My plan was to create a Warhammer Fantasy Empire army that I could use for Sword and Spear and, especially Sword and Spear Fantasy.<div><br /></div><div>Obviously the figures aren't an exact match and the Warhammer Empire didn't have any pike blocks, but I don't see that as being too important. It is the theme that counts.Anyway, I've now made a start and here are some of my first efforts.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRRqAUfRi9KPP7fMmjR53ULbvl_ee9ytmGex_eVgk_tWhWmp64T1kpPEofZ1F2vtzLBMWTFuPsZvn4lU0blN9VFZGWlDhq6scQ-Dwr2UxgWl6lVw_lb9BU7RKcGGJj0zQ6ejXkvBHtpyntgvDOa_h5K7SpJmqw7ATiXPL4Ds3G_MhZ9PoQmMZZ1-M_gzQ/s1223/Knights%20Panther.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="815" data-original-width="1223" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRRqAUfRi9KPP7fMmjR53ULbvl_ee9ytmGex_eVgk_tWhWmp64T1kpPEofZ1F2vtzLBMWTFuPsZvn4lU0blN9VFZGWlDhq6scQ-Dwr2UxgWl6lVw_lb9BU7RKcGGJj0zQ6ejXkvBHtpyntgvDOa_h5K7SpJmqw7ATiXPL4Ds3G_MhZ9PoQmMZZ1-M_gzQ/w640-h426/Knights%20Panther.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj03Zq7mS7eXxrZbeM5LVLiqqxNMVZQQ2g91An3QvlvR4jE2R-ytTmX7wgARKYz_4u8d0P3E_zadDOFm6yfeRzESeuzb6ZSuE6V0GTy2fgVClmlwGM6jz6SJPSrt7rgj0JXNtVAcphi-zLTWxSpF_ajQ3GLXWiPECxTxDOhyZKdguMv1c17K5JTPJI76nE/s1223/Two%20Generals.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="815" data-original-width="1223" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj03Zq7mS7eXxrZbeM5LVLiqqxNMVZQQ2g91An3QvlvR4jE2R-ytTmX7wgARKYz_4u8d0P3E_zadDOFm6yfeRzESeuzb6ZSuE6V0GTy2fgVClmlwGM6jz6SJPSrt7rgj0JXNtVAcphi-zLTWxSpF_ajQ3GLXWiPECxTxDOhyZKdguMv1c17K5JTPJI76nE/w640-h426/Two%20Generals.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div>The top picture shows two units of mounted men-at-arms who I have painted up to represent The Order of Knights Panther. I've stuck to a blue and yellow palette and also painted their helmet plumes in a desert yellow colour to give an impression of tan panther pelts.</div><div><br /></div><div>The lower picture is of two army generals, using the mounted versions of Georg von Frundsberg (left) and Cesare Borgia (right) with standard bearers. The former does a reasonable impersonation of the Emperor Karl Franz of Warhammer fame.</div><div><br /></div><div>Banners are a problem. There are plenty of images on the internet, but they are very large and generally only show one side of the flag. So, I've had to download large images, shrink them considerably (which loses all the detail), create a mirror image and then join the two halves together before printing them off. They aren't great, but they will have to do.</div><div><br /></div><div>All my units will be on 8 cm wide bases, with any Heroes, Monsters and War Wagons on 4 cm bases and leaders and magicians on round bases. I decided to put all the crew on a single base and use a small dice to record casualties. Because of the size of the gun, I had to base it on a 6cm MDF disc, so putting the crew on the same base made sense. It gives the whole thing a smaller footprint than having some of the crew on separate bases, which is easier for removing casualties.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">So, now I have a big A/T gun for my Heer. Well, I've been painting stuff but not completing things. I've also been on holiday in Normandy for an extended week, which was lovely. Here are some bronze Americans, exiting a Higgins boat to liberate the Le Roosevelt bar and restaurant just across the road behind me.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh88LRwbcJB3v3UjczkAXWvDxJAE3Cafy8movKeJh5oVChgGm7dkHxbCcHbcZ9LWHsQmDHYAqpB1Kb_X9tw6FksU4hT6qHSFwNxk0hYJg6ANPuLvGUihLR6a6XVDyFPh4hKXYVeGtvz4ZhKgAyQY8fJakrdIlaInaqJ3RIH7q91ZtTLiQT1LvOl2d9QC9s/s6000/IMGP5621.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; This can also be made up with a Nordenfelt gun, which is also supplied. I decided to paint this in a neutral grey and rely on washes (Citadel Nuln Oil), dry-brushing and AK Terrains Dark Earth basing gunk to give the thing the appearance of being a hard-used workhorse. I also used a wash of diluted Vallejo Orange Brown to add a few patches of rust, particularly on the prominent bolt heads. <span style="text-align: left;"> The figure (also from Ironclad) is there to provide a sense of scale.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfujMjJAStbCO-Zfr3ZfagxuTPxe0M25e-Z5TQ8vvaHLrhi5nBQYMGhPTkJ9F3IPeK2e3_sGeJ7syU5zsaV7uha93AZOcjqE3lNdvZZe9ljIUpYydbi0ZtY6UmkafNXcho58myHwr-GWr9aNcTJR59SK1zenmImwdr-PoXYRuMqDeifVqsoVVokYPW7OA/s1438/Steam%20tankette.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="958" data-original-width="1438" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfujMjJAStbCO-Zfr3ZfagxuTPxe0M25e-Z5TQ8vvaHLrhi5nBQYMGhPTkJ9F3IPeK2e3_sGeJ7syU5zsaV7uha93AZOcjqE3lNdvZZe9ljIUpYydbi0ZtY6UmkafNXcho58myHwr-GWr9aNcTJR59SK1zenmImwdr-PoXYRuMqDeifVqsoVVokYPW7OA/w640-h426/Steam%20tankette.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: justify;">The second vehicle is a steam-powered tankette, painted in a slightly more military shade, courtesy of Army Painter Army Green primer. Once again, wear and tear have been added with Nuln Oil, Vallejo Orange Brown rust and AK Terrains Dark Earth basing gunk. The tracks were given an initial coat of Vallejo Gunmetal Grey, which I've also used on both vehicles for the barrels of the weapons and the vision slits.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Both vehicles are cast in resin with additional metal parts, i.e wheels, guns, funnels, and are pretty easy to assemble. Now they are finished, I am looking at the rest of the Ironclad range to see what other vehicles I fancy buying. Hopefully, Ironclad will be at the club's Reveille show at the end of November, which will allow me to buy a couple more of these delightful vehicles.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">These should be huge fun to use in a Steampunk/Pulp/VSF setting, probably using The Ministry of Gentlemanly Warfare's <b><i>In Her Majesty's Name</i></b> rules.</p>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17068889968857575433noreply@blogger.com2
