The Preacher rides into town

... but will he save souls or damn them to Hell? Only time will tell.

The vengeful unhinged Preacher is a real cliché of the more Gothic end of the Western film genre, but it is one of those clichés that I think really works within a narrative gaming setting.

The Man in the Long Black Coat comes into town to dispense the Lord's Justice or maybe to save the sinners and innocents from an unknown Dark Menace. Either way, there a few game scenarios there.

Of course, the Preacher needs his Acolytes and what better than two hard-bitten believers with rifles and shotguns?

Once again, these figures are by Artizan Designs from their Wild West range. The Preacher is one of three "Frontier Characters". The other two will feature later on in this small project.

The Preacher will be equally at home in traditional western skirmish settings, but also ideal for more fantastical settings, such as In Her Majesty's Name or even ones involving Cosmic Horrors, Zombies and other eldritch scenarios.

  2. Yikes! Don't get in his way! I love that your doing the Wild West for IHMN2; I did an adventuring company based around the Earp Brothers as US Marshals. Of course they had one of the Marshals in steam powered armor!

    1. Artizan have the Earps, Wild Bill and Doc Holliday in their range. I am tempted by them and also by their dismounted 7th cavalry. Lots of options.

  3. I strode down the street, and Joris and he;
    I walked, Dirck stalked, we talked all three.
    'Go get 'em!' cried the barman as he stepped inside.
    'Get 'em!' echoed the townsmen as they drew aside;
    From the perils of the gun fight all of them shied,
    But stayed to watch what would the contest betide.

    I drew forth my pistol, and Joris and he;
    I fired, Dirck fired, we fired all three.
    'Good shot!' cried the preacher as the foe bit the dust.
    '...Shot!' echoed the townsmen, 'The gun fight was just!'
    That outlaw gang's career's gone bust,
    And all because we three fired fust.

  4. On a gathering storm comes
    A tall handsome man
    In a dusty black coat with
    A red right hand...

    So much potential here. You could have a scenario where the players have to eliminate the zombies/vampires/whatever within a certain number of turns, or the Preacher shows up intent on saving the town by destroying it, and they have to deal with him too. Or something crazy like that :)
